Conflict is a normal part of the human experience, but it can be magnified in families who both live and work together. Each side of the conflict has a "hook," or hot button, that sets them off.
In this interview, Natasha McVeigh of Oikonomia Advisory talks about how to defuse conflict in family business settings and move towards tolerance and forgiveness. One thing to remember, she says, is that each person contributes at least 50% of the conflict. Preventing conflict requires setting boundaries clearly and early, and moving past it requires pondering why things bother us, being curious about other people's hooks, and seeing them through a more empathetic lens.
